MBluto, it doesn't matter what era the music is from, that "crap" is still extremely hard to play.
Not only is it impressive that he's playing it at a young age, but it's impressive that he can play that with such small hands at this age.
In conclusion, MBluto, don't get your panties in a bundle because he's better than you'll ever be. |

He's on that movie that is coming out. The one about teaching a bunch of kids to be a "rock band" a la "School of Rock," but in real life.
I don't know the story behind him, because I have not seen the movie yet. But I think he's a prodigy. |

| omg that really sounds messed up! its good that he can play that at 8 but the music before his "solo" does not suit his solo! i think the settings on his amp are bit messed up and it sounds a bit noisy n messy but still decent |

He has the tone all the way up. It's easier to hammer like that. |

He's not a prodigy. All he's doing is tapping -- sloppily -- and that's a technique you can work up in a week or two if you put a minimal amount of effort into it.
If the kid is at a music school, they should be teaching him proper scales and composition, not a show-off technique that isn't useful for anything other than Van Halen covers. No one buys records to hear tapping. |

No. Scales form the basis of improvisational solos. The standard blues scale, for example, is used in a lot of old-school straight blues songs, but it's also the scale used by Chuck Berry in Johnny B. Goode, by Coheed and Cambria in most of their songs involving solos, and even by the guitarists in ska bands like Dance Hall Crashers. Even the dude playing Canon rock in the video on this site is using a standard blues scale for most of the track. The major difference is that they're all playing over different chords and using slightly different techniques appropriate to the music style.
Basically all I'm saying is that a music school should teach a kid, well...music, instead of having him focus on a rarely-used hammering techniques that went out of style almost two decades ago.
Learning how to tap before learning the basics of playing with other musicians is like going to a kung fu school and learning how to backflip before you even try to master plain old front kicks. |

Yeah, probably why this kid's playing sucks is that i'm quite sure his teacher is a total copy-cat crap who loves Van Halen a lot, well
you better teach this kid with some REAL MUSIC TECHNIQUES,not some retro-stuff exercise scales that was dead two decades ago...Hey TEACHER,better stick this kid's guitar up your ass |

Well put. I wasn't impressed at all. I'm a guitar player too, so i know how hard it is to play. I learned how to tap after trying it for like five minutes. I got bored and moved on. (although this kid is probably better than me.) |

| Too many random notes i see how it plays with only one finger. the only technic i see is tapping but it turns a little monotone because he repeats too much times the same verse. sucked but i wish i had i guitar like that at 7 years. or at least a guitar |
