Thanks, Bram. It is really tough. And it only gets harder as time goes on. Maybe I do just have self-imposed restrictions based on a book that has inspired evil sugar coated with the love of God. I never said that a guy under 18 shouldn't have sex. I said that an unmarried man shouldn't have sex with someone who isn't his wife (just my point of view). And believe it or not, the Bible doesn't say anything about masturbation. If you think about it, people were getting married long before 18 back when the Bible was written. Besides, the entire basis of Christianity is accepting Jesus Christ into your heart. You can't force someone to accept anything. You can scare them into practicing, as has been done many times in the past, but you can't force them to accept. Christianity is a choice.
And God hasn't forsaken me at all. I've been through trials in life just like anyone else. The difference is, when you build your house in the sand, when the storm comes, it will be washed away. But when you build your house on a rock, the storm will not affect you, because you have something to ground you in place. It is for that reason that your rant on Christianity will not defer me from my faith, because I am strong and sure of myself in Jesus Christ. You are not, nor am I requiring or asking that of you. It is for this reason I do not appreciate you trying to tell me what to believe when I merely explain what I believe without asking you to do the same.
As far as controling me for my money, I don't have much to give, and I don't know what they'd be using it for. I've been to the homes of my pastors and.... well, they're really not very well off. They send what money they receive to ministries in other countries who are trying to start a church. They've got about 20 different flags from the places around the world they've donated money to, and helped create a Christian community (yes, these people were willing Christians, and asked for our help. We did not force this upon them and they were not brainwashed.) Granted there are some churches that do use money for thier own purposes. The Catholic church has been doing it for years (I'm Protestant, by the way).
So my convictions are not to fool myself, they are my own choice. Why have sex with anyone but the man I'm going to spend the rest of my life with? The man that I love more than anything in the world? Isn't that the best kind of sex there is, is with the one you love? And if we had sex before our wedding night, it would take away from the magic of the wedding. You can call me an idealist, or traditional, but I'm looking forward to my wedding day a lot. And I'd like it to be perfect by my standards and by God's. *Shrugs* nothing you have to believe yourself, and nothing you have to agree with. But please don't try to tell me to run away from my faith. It's a longwinded and pointless attempt. |

Well, Wat, we don't "feel eachother up" ...ever. We cuddle, and sometimes we kiss, but sometimes we try to avoid it. But the occasions of my boyfriend's release are no one else's business. Not even my own. The only time we talk about it is when I'm holding him accountable for masturbation, or when we've gone too far with eachother.
The problem is that there are no guidelines for teenagers in the Bible. The only one there is resides in Timothy I and II. That's more of what's appropriate to wear, the taming of the tongue, etc. So really, when a Christian couple really cares about how far they take their relationship, they usually talk to God about it. My boyfriend and I are currently meditating on and asking God about whether or not it's ok to kiss (because it can lead to making out, which is a type of foreplay, and further). We haven't come up with an answer yet, but we're 3 1/2 hours away from eachother right now, so we don't have to worry about it quite yet. My roommate says that limiting myself that much is "sick," but everyone has their own opinion. We just do whatever we can to keep from thinking or acting out anything that is or could lead us to lust. I mean, we're not perfect, by far. We've fallen a few times to what you probably wouldn't see as a big deal, but what we thought was just as bad as having sex (none of which included either of us touching, groping, or getting naked). But like I said, it's a big deal for us. But there are Christians who say that it's ok to kiss, there are Christians that say you can't even look at a member of the opposite sex, that you can't hold hands, that it's ok to sleep in the same bed, that it's ok to live together, etc. I don't know how they come to their conclusions of what's right in a relationship, but my boyfriend and I always confront God about what we do, either to ask permission, or to ask forgiveness. In either case, the ultimate truth should always be the word of God. Some people just hear what they want to hear, some people hear what God says to them, and some people don't bother asking. But I think that if you're living your life by walking the path of righteousness according to God, then that includes living by His word and His truth. |

Actually, I don't like using the terms "boyfriend" or "dating." We like to think of it more as courting. As far as holding him accountable for masturbation, you'll remember that I said that some people have it almost as a hobby. I just make sure it doesn't become a daily thing. He's usually pretty good about it, but sometimes, when he becomes distanced from God, he falls back into it again. I just kind of let him know when he's doing it for release, and when he's just doing it because he's upset or angry, or whatnot. I guess that's a guy thing? Anyways, we're limiting ourselves by God's standards. The Bible says, "Be holy, for I am holy." And, well, we just try to be as pure as two human teenagers in love can be. So you can see it either way, that we're limiting ourselves or that God is limiting us. Whichever it is, it's just going to make our marriage that much better, and that much more to look forward to

Like the choice too either have sex or not, If you were not being religious you and your boyfriend would go out togerther and have great, romantic and exciting times as you do now, but the difference is that you would go home together and share a beautiful part of being together as man and woman. And for the record, I never have illuded that you sleep around, or sleep with someone not your life long partner, I am not into that, but I do really enjoy a good romp after a great night out, and so should you....
The church does want your money and even though you may not have much right now, you may become wealthy in the future and I am sure the church would have thier hands out. Because if you think that it does not cost HUGE AMOUNTS of money to support the church you are truly in the dark!! Where do you think this money comes from? Your backs!!

Cyclepath, I'm sorry if you feel that God has forsaken you, but I can assure you He will never deal more to you than you can handle. But you talk about the church as a single, everpresent entity. As I have mentioned before, I am Protestant, and don't believe in the pope. The whole point of being pope is so that people will worship you. I mean, he claims that he shares his fathership with God. The Bible says that those who humble themselves will be exalted in Heaven. I'm sorry, but I don't see the pope as humbling himself at all ever. And you're right. Once you accept Jesus into your heart, you are submitting to His will. Every Sunday, I go to church, I dance and sing to praise His name, I cry in His presence, and I listen to the word of God. When I come home, I take joy in everything the Lord has provided me with, and stay faithful when some of those things are taken away, or if they are not what I want. I mean, who are we to say what we need, or what we want? Jesus walked the earth with a single robe, never knowing when He was going to get His next meal, and He always, ALWAYS praised God. And when He was being beaten and crucified, He asked the Lord forgiveness for their sins. When on the cross, He cried out, Father, why have You forsaken me? And He still remained faithful. What would be the point of having God, if we could just say, "That's ok, God, I can handle this. I'll take it from here. I know everything I want, everything I need, and Your will makes no nevermind to me." That's not having a God. That's having a supervisor. God is our Father. And a father wants to talk to his children, and hear back from them. He wants to do what he can for them. But he also weilds the hand of punishment when you do wrong. You may not believe you were wrong, and you may not have known you had done wrong, but you will be punished just the same. The same applies to the Father in Heaven.
As far as money goes, I know it takes huge amounts of money to support a church. And I will gladly give money to keep my church running. I just got back from my last day at my church here at college, where I teach Sunday school. All of my kids gave me a huge group hug (and a couple handfuls of dandilions ), as did many of the people there who I have only known for a few months. They have all asked me to keep in touch, and they are all praying for me all the time, as I am praying for them. I didn't get to talk to my pastor before I left, but he was kind to me from the start. Even in a church of a couple hundred, he was able to remember my name the following week, and that of my friend, whom I brought with me after a couple of weeks. We are a huge community and network of support and friendship, and I would pay the same amount of money to keep that going as I would give to any organization that does good in the community. What else would I do with that money? Use it to support my future? They are supporting my future, because they are supporting me.
Thank you for refering to my boyfriend as my fiancee (it's a nice thought), but we're not engaged quite yet. But we are not strong in our faith because of the restrictions we place on ourselves. We are strong in our faith because of the trust we put in God over our lives. Flagelents (I think that's how you spell it. The guys who beat themselves?) must have missed the verse in the Bible that says "Your body is a temple." Doing harm to ones' self isn't quite the answer. But they had it right with prayer. They beat themselves to keep from falling into sin. There was once a man who never slept, but beat himself all night because he was having nocturnal emissions, and erections. Now.... that's a little harsh on God's design. If God created man to do that, then why beat ones' self for it?
In either case, my boyfriend and I don't have to validate our relationship through sex. Granted, we'd love to, and granted that I'm sure it would be great fun... but there's nothing wrong with waiting for it. Like I've said before, our wedding is going to be perfect, because it's going to be the first time for a lot of things. And not only is that something of God, it's just romantic, and... well, it's something to look forward to |

I understand how people feel strongly about thier convictions and that is a good thing for sure. I hope your convictions bring you happiness in your future. God has not forsaken me because one cannot be forsaken by something they do not believe in, but those are my convictions.....

| There is no doubt that sex is pretty fantastic and a big part of a relationship, however, when I think of my wife, I think of love (holding hands, talking you know, love stuff) not sex. As to the video, the Mrs Robinson thing makes an interesting story but is morally and legally wrong. A person in her position should be punished for her abuse. I can tell you one thing mates. We lost our way completely in this world the day we succumbed to christianity. During my 15 years of studying history i have learnt that..That!, fucked us up more than anything i can think of. Along with politics and currency of course. But in truth all three are intertwined with each other, hence the reason why the world went crazy and turned to shit.
