| He should have paddled at the back so the front tilted up and there was less resistance. What a dumb dog. |

If dogs are colorblind why is my dog's favorite color (provably) yellow? My wife told me it was and I didn't believe her until she brought a set of 7 balls, identical except for color, and my dog would pick yellow out of the group, every time. As to intelligence, Thats more than just a stroke to get a toy. If the dog was trained to follow that procedure than he's one smart dog, but if he figured it out on his own; then that's real intelligence. Some few dogs show real intelligence.
My little dog can count to twenty, forward, backwards, or randomly, AND understands the CONCEPT. It took a total of 14 days, once or twice a day for about five minutes each time, to teach him this. He can also bark 911 & SOS by either voice command or ONE handed sign ADDING THE NUMBER OF FINGERS flashed. I could go on but you wouldn't believe it until you saw it. I do have a video of him counting from 10 to 1, 911, & SOS, but I don't think I'll release it until I tape him counting to twenty- someday. I don't need the fame or fortune, and I fear it would make him a target to steal. Who needs that?

i read most of what you wrote but i cant concentrate too long........dogs are colourblind, obviously some colours brighter white and a whole set of greys, so maybe it does prefer the yellow colour, but that doesnt mean it sees the colour. |

Experiments have shown that dogs do see color, but in a more limited range than that seen by normal humans, who see the rainbow of colors described by "VIBGYOR": Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red (plus hundreds of variations on these shades). Instead, dogs see "VIBYYYR" (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Yellow, Yellow, Yellow, and Red). The colors Green, Yellow, and Orange all look alike to dogs; but look different from Red and different from the various Blues and Purples. Dogs are very good at telling different shades of VIB apart. Finally, Blue-Green looks White to dogs. To this I can only add that the experiments were done on only two breeds of dogs. I can only say that it's possible that various breeds might have propensities toward greater or lessor visual acuity AND color recognition, just as some breeds are sight hunters, some scent hunters, and some both. I've read that dogs have lesser visual acuity then humans, but I believe from observation; that this is also a breed specific thing. While fishing from a boat I've seen dogs barking at another dog 1/3 mile away up on shore, while I, with 20/15 vision was unable to spot it for a period. I was impressed. They claim dogs see about 20/80. That's four times blurrier than humans, but they see moving things better than we do which obviously explains the dogs up on shore, but then until they test various breeds, I consider that too pat a statement.

I apologize, there are so many smartasses on these posts, I thought you were being one. I'll make it brief. Dogs do see some colors, but not necessarily as we do. I THINK It might vary between breeds. Some breeds are sight hunters, some scent hunters, and some both.
Again, sorry buddy, no offence intended.
