Although dogs like rottweilers and pitbulls were bred to be guard dogs and fighting dogs;ultimately it's the dogs owner that shapes the way the dog behaves around humans and other animals for that matter.
I can't stand the dog owners that are irresponsible and raise their dogs to be antisocial and overly aggressive.

Pit Bulls are dangerous dogs and should never be allowed to be kept as pets. I know several owners of pit bulls, and they defend them saying that it is in the way they are raised. This is not true, it is the breed. The were BRED to be fighting dogs, and so they are. It comes naturally to them. For this reason they make very poor neighborhood pets.
One friend tells me that they protect his property, but are very friendly with his family. Apparently he has never read how some teens easily and silently killed two such family "pets" with bow and arrow before burglarizing a place....
Among recent attacks in Florida: an 81 year old man was recently killed in a Pit Bull attack. In two other RECENT unrelated nearby attacks, a woman had her scalp and part of her face ripped off. This all within a very short time of one another...
Go to http://www.unchainyourdog.org/NewsAttacks.htm
and read of some the many killings and attacks by these lovely pets.
I repeat. I have little patience with idiots and their "macho dogs." |

Well technically ALL dogs can be dangerous given the right circumstances. We'd have to ban all dogs to be safe.
That being said, my wife had a pitbull as a pet when she was a child and he was the friendliest dog she ever had;she never had a problem. She was attacked by a dog when she was really young but that was by a poodle.
If a person has a dog that is aggressive and more prone to attack, then that person should take the proper precautions to make sure that dog doesn't have the opportunity to attack a human being period.
I'm not a big proponent of banning something that COULD be dangerous because that opens up a whole can of worms so to speak. |

"Technically ALL dogs can be dangerous given the right circumstances."
So can my wife, but then; she's not a dog and was never BRED to fight in a pit...
As to your wife being attacked by a poodle, minature poodles are often snappy. A friend who has a dog grooming business refuses to take mini poos, or pit bulls. Just because the mini-poo looks cute doesn't necessarily make them a Bichon Frise in nature.... I have to agree with you as to not a big proponent of banning something that COULD be dangerous, however, when any animal PROVES dangerous, they should be euthanized.....

Your very biased opinion based on the CRAP that the media spews out and spoon feeds you (That you seem to gobble up graciously) is wrong on so many levels that one would question your intellegence. Yes, Pit Bulls were bred to fight because of their BODY style. It has nothing to do with their brains. Some of the meanest nastiest dogs I have ever seen were small Chihuahuas and poodles. These don't make the news since they don't pose a lethal problem to people. Dogs are very much like kids. If you raise them right, they'll be great dogs/ kids. If you raise them wrong, they have the possibility of killing. Many people are injured by dogs, but the Pits seem to be the only ones the media wants to feed you. I've owned many dogs, but the two best/ friendliest I have ever had were Pits. Use your brain, not your fears to make judgements. |

Hmmm, have you ever known 2 brothers that 1 was nice and the other was mean as hell ??? Yes I think we all have, so much for your "how you raise them" theory... I personally think it has more to do with the breeding... People that fight pits, breed them to be mean... And they raise them to be mean, yes I also think that plays a part in it although not as much as breeding... But I have seen pit bulls that were sweet and gentle... But even so these dogs tend to be overly protective of there master, and there for are potentially
dangerous... So I don't think they are a good choice as a family pet... |

"Hmmm, have you ever known 2 brothers that 1 was nice and the other was mean as hell ??? "
Yup.. and it's that way with dogs also. In the same litter, you'll have some that turn out bad, and most that are good if raised that way. Just like MOST kids that are raised right, there's always going to be the bad apple occasionally. These dogs are physically built to fight with the shorter stout limbs and thick necks to prevent the vitals there, but you don't "Breed" mean... it something that is taught to them from early on. Find or talk to anyone if you can that has raised dogs for fighting and ask them if they have ever seen one that they didn't have to train the hell out of to get that way. People have tried to get the mean ones of the litter and breed that into them, but it's just a disposition that must be taught.
I can't prove it and don't know where to find the info, but I would be willing to bet that German Shepherds and Chows have hurt more people than Pits... they just sren't as knews worthy. Everything about a shepherd that makes it loved... loyal, protective, aggressive... these are traits that are seen in a bad light to a pit. Are you honestly so naive to think that attacks by other types of dogs doesn't happen on a much larger scale, considering all the breeds that exist? You just hear about the pits... so they MUST be the evil ones.
I have pictures of my son still in diapers, pulling the jowls dang near off one pit and using his rib cage to bounce on with his butt... the dog grunting every bounce... sitting there loving it and wagging his tail. I would take the dog to the beach and he loved and played with everyone there. The 2nd pit I had was very much like this dog... loved everyone. It's not the breed.. it's the owners.
The worst/meanest dog I ever owned was a Brittney Spaniel. It would snap and lose it sometimes and try to bite anyone around. I put it down for this reason. It happens, but have you ever heard of a Spaniel attack?? Not news-worthy. I say again... use your brains people. |
