Says Who ?
FYI, Jean-Loup Chrétien was the first French astronaut in the space with the Soyouz T-6 in 1982 ! In case you think that only the Americans can do such a thing !

| Why did they get so angry? The least they could do was thank him for a laugh, or the opportunity to tell their chums at the clubhouse, when they're drinking their Tom Collins, that a fucking astronaut played through! Fuck, man. Go back to the wife you hate, the children you loathe, the house and car you're stuck paying for for the rest of your life, and the job you despise. Astronaut, surprise me like that with something so funny, and i'm buying you lunch. |

The Soyouz T models were made by the Russians, and launched primarily by Soviet crew.
However the Russians would hardly been in the space race if it had not been for captured German technology during the war. Much the same can be said for the Americans as well that lacked just as much before their operation paperclip when they snatched just about everything the Germans had developed. The German V2 rocket is still the model on which the modern rockets are being built upon. |

Don't forget to add in how better the Russian space program was than the Americans. Their stuff is still flying when the Americans will be hitching rides for 5 years. Oh, and how daring the Americans were (mainly because they had to beat the Russians in the space race), I mean man those American boys had balls! Plenty of good info when you read or watch both sides of that infamous race! |

I'm not sure which scientists the Ruskies brought from Germany. But it was clear that without them they wouldnt have gone as far as they did. The only rockets the russians had during the war was the Katyscha, and those had precision of chinese black powder rockets from the early 12th century. What can be said of the russians is that they sure build things simple and low on maintainence. But i don't fully trust their records of accidents, as with everything else that russians have been involved in. Only results have mattered while lives have been pretty much nonsensual. In America it's the other way around, saftey and regulations have hampered the progress that would otherwise have been just as fast as the russians.. Just another difference between a free society and a totalitarian dictatorship. |

Some time in the past year I watched a really good program that detailed the space race between both countries. Although I can’t remember the Russian space program leader’s name, I do remember that he was surprisingly a cautious man. Even with the mounted pressure to obviously beat the Americans in the race. On the flip side the Americans were not being so cautious. They ran fewer tests and were far more daring than the Russians. The Russians had the capability to go to the moon, land, and come back by the time the Americans did it. Its just who was daring enough to put the lives of their countrymen on the line. It was a great documentary. And yes, the Russian records definitively should be brought into question, even still… they definitely were ahead of the Americans until Neil Armstrong walk on the moon. After that I have very little information. |
